Frequently asked questions by paintballers

Is The Tippmann A-5 Full Auto?

The Tippmann A-5 comes stock as a semi-auto marker. However, the Tippmann A-5 is one of the most modular markers on the market and can be easily upgraded to increase the firing rate. The first way to to this is with the Tippmann A-5 Response Trigger Kit. The second (and our favorite) is with the Tippmann A-5 Selector Switch E-Grip. This grip allows you to shoot up to 15 balls per minute and is a great addition to your A-5. We recently did a review of the Selector Switch E-grip to help paintballers see for themselves just how well this marker shoots full-auto. Take a look at our helpful YouTube video below:

How Far Can the Tippmann A-5 Shoot?

The maximum range of the Tippmann A-5 is about 150 feet. However, accuracy does start to suffer at this distance.

How Does the Cyclone Hopper Work?

The Tippmann A-5 cyclone hopper is all analog and has no electronics. It works by using the excess compressed gasses from each shot to turn the cyclone feed within the hopper and agitate the balls. This means you don’t have to deal with batteries, bluetooth syncing or anything of the sort. If you did get a dimpled ball, there is a small plunger running parallel to the marker on the right side which almost acts as a forward assist. This allows you to push the paintball into the breach manually to clear the obstruction.

Is The Tippmann A-5 Reliable?

Tippmann is one of the most reliable names in all of paintball. The A-5’s predecessor, the 98 Custom, was one of the longest running markers before the A-5 came out with some mechanical improvements. Even the A-5, aesthetically, looks very much the same as the 98 custom. It’s not uncommon to hear stories from players who have used their same Tippmann marker for over 20 years.
