Pod Packs and Pods

Most paintball games involve tons of paint and that means carrying extra ammunition. After all, it’s better to have extra paintballs than be left stranded without any rounds. Players may use hundreds of rounds of paintball during the course of a game, especially if it’s a game of speedball.

Beside providing additional ammunition, paintball pod carriers can also double as protection. It’s much less painful to have a paintball pod carrier take the blow than an arm or a rib. Plus, there are paintball pod carriers that allow players to carry extra air tanks as well. In short, paintball pod packs are much more than just an extra store of paintballs.

Paintball Pod Harnesses

Paintball pod harnesses come in various colors and sizes. The most common and affordable type of paintball harness is a simple belt that loops around the waist. This belt incorporates enough pouches to carry one to three paintball pods at a time. Players can also purchase paintball harnesses that fit over an existing belt to perform the same function.

Many paintball players who compete in various types of games make use of paintball pod harnesses. Depending on the length of the paintball game, a maximum of three paintball pods should be enough ammunition to see a player through without issue. At the same time, longer games may require a player to carry more than one paintball pod harness. In this case, it’s more effective to invest in a paintball vest instead.

Paintball Pods

Paintball pods are the tubes and containers used to carry extra paintballs into the field. Most pods contain about 140 paintballs. Though it’s common for hoppers to have a 200 paintball capacity, a lower pod capacity means players don’t have to wait until they’re completely out of ammo to reload.

Pods are available in 50- and 100-round capacities as well. Most paintball pods feature a spring-loaded lid that makes it easier to reload during gameplay.

Types of Pod Packs

Paintball pod packs are divided into horizontal and vertical styles. Horizontal pod packs are one of the more popular types, considering they make it easier to reload on the field. A horizontal pod pack features a harness that allows players to carry paintball pods in a horizontal position, parallel to the body. This makes it easier for players to reach around and remove a pod to reload. Replacing the empty pods is an easy task as well.

However, horizontal paintball pod packs do make for a larger target. Though horizontal pod packs make room to carry an air tank, many players favor the vertical pod pack because it’s discreet. At the same time, these types of pod packs are not easily replaceable on the field.

Paintball Vests

Paintball vests perform several functions, from protecting players and carrying accessories to distributing weight across the torso. There are two main types of paintball vests: sewn or static and MOLLE.

Features

Static paintball vests are more affordable compared to MOLLE vests, but they’re less customizable. In fact, the pouches sewn into static vests are permanent, meaning players can’t move them around at will to fit their needs.

MOLLE vests, on the other hand, include a network of webbing that allows players to fit accessories and pouches as needed, in whatever configuration they like. This is especially useful for players who want to experiment with where they’ll place their air tank for the most comfortable approach.
